<p>French toast – serve with fruit, bacon or sausage, grits, and coffee – all available from Market2Go and/or the Saturday Main Street Market.</p> <p>Tips & Notes<br /> This dish is a great way to use up bread that’s beginning to go stale.</p> <p>The recipe can be found in the <a href="http://www.gutenberg.org/files/29728/29728-h/29728-h.htm" target="_blank"><strong>Apicius</strong></a>, a collection of recipes dating back to Imperial Roman times, where it is described as aliter dulcia (another sweet dish). The recipe says to slice bread, crust removed, and break it into large pieces. Step by Step Instructions
- Combine eggs, milk, honey and salt.
- Dip bread slices into the mixture
- Melt butter in a large skillet. Fry in butter over medium heat until golden brown, turning once.
